United-Brass-Konzerte 2026

It was very big and had two big sleeping rooms – one for the girls and one for the boys. We did everything by ourselves: cooking, washing up, cleaning and shopping. That was sometimes a bit hard, but also funny and cool because we learned to work together.

On Monday morning we met at school at 8:45 a.m. and said goodbye to our parents. The bus came at 9:30 a.m., and after a long drive we arrived at the museum. We had to walk about two kilometres to our house. When we arrived, we unpacked our things, made our beds and explored the place. Some children even built a tipi out of branches and mown grass. It took a long time and a lot of teamwork, but in the end it looked amazing! Everyone was very proud because we built it completely on our own. In the evening we had our first class council and went to bed very tired but happy.

On Tuesday we had our first workshop: we built a small half-timbered house (a Fachwerkhaus). We worked in four groups and had to follow the plan very carefully. Sometimes we made mistakes and had to rebuild parts, but finally the house was finished and looked really good! In the evening Ansgar – the baker – baked pizza with us in the really old oven in the cellar of the farmhouse. The pizza was super yummy! Ansgar also still baked bread for us – 12 loaves!

On Wednesday we went to the city of Detmold. We did a scavenger hunt, which was fun but sometimes a bit embarrassing because we had to ask people questions in English. Afterwards we had free time in the city. Some of us bought souvenirs or snacks, and then we all met at a café where our teachers, Mrs Malan and Mr Rüster, surprised us with two scoops of ice cream for everyone! On the way back we climbed trees and took a class photo in front of a waterfall. In the evening the cooking group made oven pancakes and others made small sweet pancakes – both were very tasty.

On Thursday we had the second workshop: paper making. First we tore old newspapers into little pieces, then we mixed them with water and made beautiful paper with flowers or confetti inside. It was very creative! Later we visited the museum and saw many old houses, a bakery and even a blacksmith at work. The blacksmith was really cool! She even made a heart from metal just for our class! In the afternoon the children who wanted to went by horse-drawn carriage through the museum. In the evening we had our class council and then our disco!

Before we could enter the disco, we all got glowing bracelets from the “security team”. Mr Rüster was our famous DJ Rainbow Rüster and played songs like Shake It Off by Taylor Swift and It’s Raining Tacos. There were snacks, lemonade and lots of dancing. We even made a circle for dancing with the whole class! Everybody had fun and laughed a lot. At 11 p.m. the disco was over, and we went to bed tired but happy. Some children still talked about the disco but it was quiet enough to sleep because we were all exhausted from dancing and laughing!

On Friday we got up at eight (well, actually later, because Mrs Malan tried to wake us up, but it didn’t work, we were still tired), had breakfast and tidied the whole house. Then we walked back to the coach – about two kilometres again – and went home. The bus driver was very nice, and everyone was excited to see their parents again.

Our week on Hof Remberg was amazing. We learned how to cook, to help each other and to live together as a class. It was sometimes a bit chaotic, but we had a lot of fun and became a really good team.
